ITV Network News has appointed Rachel Corp as editor after three years as acting editor.
Corp will be responsible for all national news programmes including ITV News London, ITV News Tonight programmes, current affairs series, live specials, documentaries and the team’s digital output.
Corp’s appointment follows the announcement last week that former editor Geoff Hill is standing down due to illness.
Corp said: “I am incredibly proud to be appointed editor and to continue to lead one of the best newsrooms in the business. We are passionately committed to telling the stories that really matter and it’s an honour and privilege to work with such a hugely talented team.”
Anne Mallet, ITN chief executive said Corp’s editorial innovations have “made a huge impact in recent years.” She added: “Rachel has come through the ranks at ITN and this is a hugely well-deserved appointment.”
Corp, who joined ITN as a trainee, began her career as senior field producer, covering major stories in the UK and abroad. Following her work at ITN, she briefly moved over to BBC to work as senior Moscow producer before returning to ITV News in 2017 as acting editor.
The broadcaster said as a key member of ITN’s senior leadership team Corp played an integral role in the company’s recently published Diversity and Inclusion strategy.
During Corp’s time as news editor she won the coveted Royal Television Society Journalism Award, for coverage of the rise of jihadi terror and an exclusive investigation into Thomas Cook.
Michael Jeremy, ITV director of news and current affairs, said: “Rachel is an enormously talented television executive and editorial leader. She has done a brilliant job leading ITV Network News during a very challenging period.”
