Presenter Jamie East has left Talkradio after a fellow presenter on the network cut up a face mask live on air.
East has presented a Sunday afternoon slot on the News UK station for the past two years, and said Sunday’s show (27 September) had been his last.
The former Talkradio presenter also launched The Smart 7 in April, a new podcast which aims to tell people the news in less than seven minutes.
His resignation was in response to Mark Dolan’s viral stunt last month, in which he protested against wearing face masks to stop the spread of Covid-19, with Ofcom receiving 36 complaints about the programme.
On his show, Dolan said: ‘‘If you want to save lives and get the country back on track, the only option is to get back to normal – and the first step to achieving that is to get rid of these wretched, godawful, damned, blinking, uncomfortable, scientifically empty, useless masks.’’
Responding on Twitter, East said: ‘‘It’s clear that Talkradio has a clearly defined idea of where it’s heading, sadly not many of those ideals were a great fit.
‘‘So, off the back of the recent The Smart 7 success, I’m able to wish them all the best for the future. Wear a mask, save lives.’’
Dennie Morris, Talkradio’s programme director, said: ‘‘Jamie is a great broadcaster and has been a pleasure to work with. We wish him all the very best.’’
