Andrew Neil, the political broadcaster and journalist, has resigned from his role at the BBC after a 25 year tenure and intends to chair a rival station.
Neil, who has hosted shows such as ‘Daily Politics’, announced via twitter on 25 September that with a “heavy heart” he would be leaving the public broadcast station.
According to reports from The Guardian, GB news is set to launch in early 2021 and will be a 24-hour news channel which will compete with all other major UK stations. The channel will be backed financially by US media giant Discovery.
Neil told the paper: “We’ve seen a huge gap in the market for a new form of television news.
“GB News is the most exciting thing to happen in British television news for more than 20 years. We will champion robust, balanced debate and a range of perspectives on the issues that affect everyone in the UK, not just those living in the London area.”
